|
|
Hello
Just watched the Mamma Mia film and after the kids had gone to bed, I had to have a sneaky second watch. Not because I was hopelessly captivated by this campfest (though credit where it's due - it is a very likeable film), but because I thought I recognised the T shirt worn by one of the dad's (the one that's neither Pierce Brosnan or Colin Firth). I'm sure it's a Macca World Tour T shirt from 1989/90. Has anyone else spotted this or has my obsession with all things Macca started to get the better of me?
If it is true - is there a reason for it? And how come the T shirt isn't a thousand wash grey like mine? Where'd they get a pristine one from?

That would be Stellan Skarsgård - luckily the character's name is simply Bill!
He plays an aging hippie so old tour T-Shirts would be right for the character.
I haven't found a screenshot with the T-shirt you describe yet though...

My husband has got that T-shirt from when we went to see Paul in 1990. I will have to dig it out
When we went to see Mama Mia I was nearly jumping out my seat when I saw Bill's t-shirt as I recognised it! LOL! |

Here goes, I've taken a quick photo of the reverse of one of the t-shirts we have from that tour. We have a couple with this on the back, though the other one is more grey than white as the other one was worn more.LOL

Ah yes, I have seen a screenshot with Bill wearing one like that - I say 'like' as the venues are laid out differently so probably another leg of the tour.
I'll post a link when I'm able.

Here we are, found a photo of Bill
It would appear that the venues are listed in the same order as the ones on my t-shirts but there are a couple of extra venues at the end of the list on his top so like you say Martin, it's probably from another leg of the tour

I posted about this last year after seeing the film.
It is amazing that it was never picked up in any of the reviews of Mamma Mia. _________________ Paul, I'll love you for the rest of my.................

| Anybody know why Macca's T shirt was chosen? Was it just random? Is it a compliment or ironic? Is this specific tour significant? Am I reading too much into this? Do I need to get out more? |

Interesting to compare the original tour shirts and the actual itinerary for that particular tour. I do have at least one '89/'90 t-shirt but below I am posting what is on the reverse side of my original white sweatshirt. For obvious reasons, it must be one which I had purchased during the second leg of the tour.
On the left side...
OSLO
GOTHENBURG
STOCKHOLM
HAMBURG
FRANKFURT
PARIS
DORTMUND
MUNICH
ROME
MILAN
ZURICH
MADRID
LYON
ROTTERDAM
LOS ANGELES
CHICAGO
TORONTO
MONTREAL
On the right side...
NEW YORK
BIRMINGHAM
LONDON
DETROIT
PITTSBURGH
WORCESTER
CINCINNATI
INDIANAPOLIS
ATLANTA
TOKYO
SEATTLE
SAN FRANCISCO
PHOENIX
DALLAS
LEXINGTON
TAMPA
MIAMI
RIO DE JANIERO
Sure wish I had the one which was printed with "Glasgow ~ England!" |
