This just about confirms what was mentioned in a recent interview about a dvd of his hits - not a moment too soon. Great eye-dea! ahem!
Apparently there's already a massive buzz, with thousands of fans ordering their copies....wheres that from, exactly?!!
Great great news - Macca rules!!!! |

I had no idea what they were talking about with all that "Eye" business.
I had seen that thing in the press, but I thought it was a ferris wheel.
Does The Prince of Wales like it?
Just wondering....
Do they have to call it "Anthology"? It's been used to death! _________________ take a sad song and make it better

Amazon.co.uk had it listed early this morning - as being released through warners on 14th Nov, so maybe the eye thing won't happen (nice meyesight links too) but the dvd sounds like a dead cert - now comes the wait til we hear about the tracklisting. Bizarrely I was watching a dodgy dvd anthology of his hits last nite and saw the solo version of ebony and ivory - weird!

The aspect that had me giggling is that The London Eye is like a bicycle wheel with spokes, so there is nothing as such to project an image of Paul's eye onto.

The London Eye is the large observation wheel situated opposite The Houses Of Parliament on the South Bank.
It's sponsored by British Airways so a trip on it is called a "flight" and bookings have "departure times"
Each gondola takes about 15 - 20 persons, free to stand and walk around the gondola, and the wheel rotates slowly - unlike a ferris wheel - each flight is just one rotation but it lasts 30 minutes slowly traversing the whole circle affording panoramic views over London.

In recent years the structure has become an integral part of celebratory firework displays in London with the wheel becoming a platform for the display fireworks.

| It's been up nearly 7 years now. Right on the banks of the Thames. On a clear day you can see all of London, hence the name "London Eye". Great for snapping photos too. |

Paul has allowed other DVD producers the opportunity to re-release out of print video concerts on other labels before now, those have crept out without much fanfare or publicity, and without Paul's personal involvement.
Could this be the case here?
The amazon site is very much a "placeholder" site to attract requests for further information.
It'll be interesting to see how this develops.

Martin, I do think that Pauls' PR people did looking to the very big
you tube videos of mine in the Not Such A Bad Boy thread. I did placed a remark to Paul's PR people in the hope they are watching all those wonderfull un-released videos. And now I think that they are watching it.

There are lots and lots of great videos to be finally released on an official DVD of Paul. I hope they also released some of the Secret Shows. _________________ http://cactusflowersmaccaandbeatlesblog.blogspot.com/

Paul McCartney planning sky-high London Eye show
He's got some lofty ambitions
By: News Desk
Paul McCartney is hoping to re-name the iconic London Eye landmark to promote his forthcoming DVD anthology release and could even perform for fans in the huge structure.
The new release "The McCartney Years" is due out on November, and the cover artwork recently inspired him to look towards the riverside wheel as a source of inspiration for promoting the DVD and CD. McCartney has revealed how he'd love for the Eye to renamed for a day, with his album artwork displayed down the 130 metre wheel for the whole of London to see.
"The whole idea came together after a series of meetings in Macca HQ. The artwork for the DVD cover is a stylised close-up of Sir Paul's eye - and that got the team thinking," a source close to the former Beatle tells the Daily Mirror.
"It occurred to them that the other most famous eye in the world was, of course, the London Eye and they immediately tried to work together."
McCartney is even in talks to play a special show in one of the pods - but fan's shouldn't expect an invite for the 25-person capacity space. "It's ambitious but his people are determined to make it happen and Sir Paul may even perform a one-off show in one of the pods to make it even more special."
"Macca loves London and to be the face and name of the Eye - albeit just for a short time - would be a massive honour that he would cherish." _________________ http://cactusflowersmaccaandbeatlesblog.blogspot.com/

I fully agree that a major release of back catalogue material would be invaluable.
I hope that it would be a major Paul product with full TV and radio promotion and Paul doing TV and Radio work in support.
The timing suggested here would make it all targetted for the Christmas market.
I just like to sound a note of caution whenever these things creep out through newspaper articles rather than an official press release direct from Paul

I hope that if they actually do this DVD release (which has been a dream of mine for years), that they follow the mode of the Bowie DVD and release everything they can get their hands on.
I want all of it! From the individual promo videos made in the early 70s (like Helen Wheels and My Love) to the James Paul McCartney Special to the Back to the Egg stuff and especially all the McCartney II stuff and beyond. I want even the videos for songs I'm not a big fan of like "Spies Like Us." Everything. I want it all.
3 DVDs seems to suggest that... but who knows. I truly, truly hope this is comprehensive. _________________ the 'best of mercy james' NOW available on iTunes and CDBaby. 13 songs from 1992-2009. |

I've taken lots of rides on the London Eye. It's just great.
Regarding the DVD, it's indeed true. Paul broke the news on an interview for the New Yorker magazine last June.
Amazon lists it as a 1 disc DVD, but I highly doubt it. It would fit about 2 hours of material while 3 DVDs seem to do the trick (although several vids would still be out).
